MISSIONS MINISTRY ANNUAL REPORT 2017

2017 saw our Missions focus both internally and externally at Oldtown. Through the ongoing passion and enthusiasm of the Missions Ministry, the following was accomplished:

  • A Missions Statement was created. Thank you to Kris Collins for such a thoughtful statement. It was agreed by all that it captured perfectly the essence of the Missions Ministry.
  • Missions sponsored their first fellowship outing at An Unlikely Bookstore in Plainville. The combined efforts of the Oldtown team in the trivia competition resulted in a fourth place finish!
  • Over the Memorial Day weekend, members of the Missions Ministry traveled to the National Cemetery in Bourne to assist in placing flags on the graves of our veterans. Care was taken to ensure that flags were placed on the graves of Navy Veteran John Barkley, the late husband of Cindi Barkley, and WWII Army veteran Conrad Morel.
  • Among the recipients of our “Out of the Box” collection was the North Attleboro Animal Shelter.
  • The Missions group assisted with our annual Children’s Day celebration by overseeing the activities.
  • The master calendar was created and maintained.
  • As part of the ongoing effort to support and strengthen our congregation, a “Member of the Month” initiative was developed. Participation is voluntary for those who may prefer not to be included, but to date, it has been well received, and we’ve discovered some amazing things about our members!
  • During the month of November, we updated our photo church directory. Special thanks to Cindi Barkley for her diligence and dedication in leading this initiative and ensuring that everyone had an opportunity to take part!
  • We were successful in collecting items for the two families we adopted this Christmas. We also sold $200.00 in gift cards, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the church.
  • Missions once again acted as greeters at our holiday fair. In addition to a warm welcome, Oldtown informational packets were given out, along with complimentary hot cider.
  • Oldtown took part in the Downtown Association of North Attleboro’s Annual Santa Parade. Many thanks to Jim Brinson, Steve Mankavech, and others for getting it all together. Special thanks to Briggs Nursery for the use of their truck and trailer. There were riders on the float singing carols, walkers carrying banners, and others passing out over three hundred candy canes! A fun time was had by all, despite the cold weather!

While this year was largely dedicated to strengthening us here at Oldtown, next year’s Ministry will be expanding their community outreach.

A special “thank you” to all members of Missions who worked tirelessly all year to support our congregation! Whether it was taking the lead on the photo directory project or helping out with the fair, they were always willing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in!

Respectfully submitted,
Jeannette Galvin
