2017 Music Ministry Report

OLDTOWN MUSIC COMMITTEE ANNUAL REPORT 2017

Music has always been an essential part of worship. From the days of the Old Testament, when “David and the people of Israel were celebrating with all their might before the Lord, with castanets, harps, lyres, timbrels, sistrums, and cymbals” – 2 Samuel 6:5 (NIV) – through the explosion of hymns written and sung through the Protestant Reformation, from the Morman Tabernacle Choir, through the secular and sacred songs we sing every Christmas, to the new music being created by the likes of Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith, and the Newsboys. Music helps gather and center us, it gives us strength as we lament, assurance in troubled times, joy in times of happiness, and a voice with which to praise our Savior and our Creator.

Our worship at Oldtown is filled with music of all different kinds, and we’d like to thank all who lend their voices and their talents to providing the soundtrack to worship each and every Sunday. Special thanks to Joyce and Suzanne Sheppard for their keyboard performance and to Ellen Kingman, our choir director. Congratulations to the Coffeehouse Crew for surpassing $76,000 raised for charity since our coffeehouses began!! We have been overjoyed to welcome a few new voices and faces to our musical “band” this year, and encourage anyone who would like to lend their voice or their music to join us by talking with anyone on the music committee. Come and help us make a joyful noise to the Lord!!
