Church Committee Update – May 8, 2020

FROM THE CHURCH COMMITTEE

Since March 12, 2020, when we made the decision to suspend our first in-person worship, we (the Church Committee) have been meeting virtually through Zoom on a weekly basis. We have been working hard to make sure that all necessary church business is taken care of and our building is secure. We have also tried to encourage our church family to stay connected and to check in on one another.

During this week’s meeting, we began talking about how, when it is safe, we will begin to re-open our church building and sanctuary. Be assured that the safety of our congregation is our number one focus. We have started a “Reconnection Team” that will be looking at how and when we will begin taking steps in that direction. Several Church Committee members have agreed to work on the team and Kris Collins has graciously volunteered to be the chairperson. We are blessed by the experience and dedication of all involved and will share more information about the team and updates about the next steps, as they become available.

Please know that this will not be an immediate process. Church Committee made the following decision this week:

“For the safety of all, the church building will remain closed and all in-person worship, activities, and events will be suspended until June 30, 2020. On June 16, 2020, the Church Committee will reassess the situation and decide whether the suspension will continue or whether we will begin the process of reopening in-person use of the church building. We thank you for your patience.”
