Worship Canceled 3/15/2020

The following is from a letter from Pastor Kelly, distributed in our Oldtown Update email sent Friday, 3/13/2020.

March 13, 2020

Dear Friends,

It is a time filled with questions, concerns, fears, and uncertainties. But let us remember…“God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Therefore we shall not fear, though the earth should change, and though the mountains shall slip into the heart of the sea.”

During this season of Lent, we have been learning how to live more freely and lightly. But we have found that there is another lesson for us to learn and that is how to live more safely and well.

It is with an abundance of caution and care for our Oldtown Family that we are following the recommendations of our Southern New England UCC conference staff and are regretfully canceling our in-person worship services and church-sponsored activities beginning this Sunday. Our Pet Vaccination Clinic on Saturday will still be held.

The conference has actually asked us to suspend in-person worship and activities for two weeks, but because information is changing so rapidly, we have decided to assess the situation one week at a time. We will be getting worship out to everyone via email and Facebook on Sunday, and we will give you more details as they come together.

Please be safe and follow the recommendations provided by the CDC. Reach out and check in with your neighbors and fellow parishioners by phone, wash your hands, and let us know if there are needs that we can respond to.

As our moderator, Steve Mankvech said to me today, “take a deep breath and we’ll take this one week at a time!”
