Oldtown Welcome Statement

Oldtown Welcome Statement

WELCOME STATEMENT OF THE
FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, UCC,
OF NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH

The First Congregational Church, UCC, of North Attleboro, MA, affectionately known as “The Oldtown Church,” is an Open and Affirming community of creative and curious followers of Jesus. We extravagantly welcome all people; believers, non-believers, doubters, and questioners, no matter who they love, their gender identity or expression, their race, culture, ability, or economic circumstance. We walk, wonder, imagine, and share together as we experience the presence of God through intergenerational worship, faith formation, fellowship, mission opportunities, spiritual experiences, and conversations. Our congregation has served the Attleboro area for over three hundred years. Our history and our building are old, but our thinking is not.

The Oldtown Church is a place where souls are fed, minds are stretched, and joys and challenges are received with love and handled with grace. If you’re looking for a place of perfection, we’re not it, but we are a safe sanctuary when the world feels like it’s spinning too fast. Like the ragtag group of disciples that followed Jesus, we’re an intergenerational group of real live human beings who make mistakes and sometimes say things that we shouldn’t, but who also do our best to listen for God’s still-speaking voice that guides us to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.

We share bread and juice at Christ’s Table; hot coffee, turkey dinners, and cups of cold water in Jesus’ name, always meeting people where they are and being ever open to the movement of the Holy Spirit around us. We believe that people of all ages and stages are a blessing to our journey of faith, and we encourage each and every person to be who God created them to be, as together we share God’s unconditional love and grace with the world. So come walk with us, as together we explore our journeys of faith.
