Oldtown Music Ministry Annual Report 2019

At Oldtown, we include a wide variety of music in our worship, from age-old favorite hymns to the latest in contemporary music as heard on K-LOVE and other radio stations. We are blessed to have talented musicians and singers to share their gifts with us each Sunday.

This past year, we bid farewell to our longtime pianist Joyce Sheppard as she and her family moved to Maine. Thus began a search process to find someone to play the piano–and maybe even our beloved organ–during worship. During the transition, Ellen Kingman volunteered to play for us while we completed our search. As the summer wore on, Ellen felt called to become our full-time pianist, and we could not be more pleased. Ellen has even agreed to play the organ at the end of worship, allowing us to once again hear this glorious, historic, treasured instrument.

Towards the end of the year, Kait Clavette revived our chime choir, and we were treated to wonderful performances of our young people playing the chimes and singing. We hope to keep this going in the New Year, whether preparing specific pieces for performance or just as an activity for the young people to learn reading music and playing together.

We have also welcomed Kevin Graves to our regular “slate of performers,” and he has fit right in with his excellent guitar playing and wonderful voice. Kevin is also bringing some great ideas for new songs to add to our repertoire, as we continue to work to find new and exciting music to play. Our choir also continues to grow, adding new faces both young and young at heart. We welcome everyone who would like to share their talents–vocal or instrumental–to add to the glorious musical worship experience at Oldtown.
